What To Do If You Slip?

So, it happened. That thing you kept at the back of your mind, that you might not even have believed was possible. Maybe you were reading, or out for a walk, or even (inconveniently) in the shower, and now you find yourself somewhere far away from home, asking yourself one very important question: what do I do now?

Step 1: Stay Calm
Most slips last less than twenty-four hours, and you should return home without any need for additional action or intervention. It may seem scary, but the likelihood of severe danger to your wellbeing is low.

Step 2: Assess Your Surroundings
This will help you figure out your priorities. Are there any other humans/intelligent species or animals? Are there signs of civilisation? Is it hot, cold or mild? Can you see any water or recognisable food?

If there are other intelligent beings: official CII (Centre of Interdimensional Investigation) guidance states that ‘most recorded interactions have been encouragingly positive. The most important thing is to communicate that you are not a threat. However, if possible, always avoid interaction altogether and hide in a safe, comfortable place.’
If you are forced to reveal yourself, hold your hands up with your palms facing forwards and remain still. State that you are not a threat but be aware that the species may not understand human languages. Do not make any sudden movements and follow any instructions as long as it is safe to do so.

Try to remain undetected by any animals: even if they appear similar or identical to friendly species found on Earth. They could still be hostile, venomous or carrying diseases.

In hot weather: keep to the shade and move as little as possible to maintain hydration levels.

In cold weather: keep to light, sunny areas while keeping as hidden as possible. Secure any clothes tightly and keep moving. You can create shelters by digging a small ‘cave’ in snow.

There is no available record of a slip lasting more than forty-eight hours. However, if you are still in-slip after two days, try to identify safe sources of food and water.

Step 3: Find A Safe Position
Although it may be tempting to explore, you should always aim to remain in a safe, hidden location during a slip. According to CII advice, this is the best way to avoid any dangers and get home safely.
